Stairs

D Rutledge Sr. had a real thing for stair building. It rubbed off on his progeny.

The little hill in our backyard has been asking for some stairs, so we built some. All stones were sourced locally (our backyard). Danny helped, then posed. It was hard to get everyone at the same time:Leigh immediately explored, fell, and hit her head, making a coconut-like noise. She wailed, then climbed up again and fell. More wailing, then right back to the stones of pain. Special child.

SHV is 34 weeks on Friday. 2 more weeks and we'll feel home free.

Leigh turns Two!

In what seems like an incredible turn of events, Leigh is now 2 years old. Walking, talking, and causing trouble. On Monday we went to the pediatrician; 50% for weight, 5-10% for height. At least she's on the curves, right?

Leigh's first birthday treat was sleeping in Danny's room for the first time. With a new baby coming, now they share the "big kid's room."

In the afternoon, we put together Leigh's new wagon. Total chaos.
Compare and contrast to one year ago:

Spring, Hawk and Rutledge style!

Easter weekend came, and it got warm outside.
Danny woke up, opened up his door, and said, "I want to find de eggs!" So outside we went. There wasn't a lot of light, so we didn't get many good photos.
This afternoon, we got SHV outside and into the fresh air. Danny came up with the beach chair idea for outdoor convalescence.
Here's a nice sequence of D Hawk showing Leigh a ball to play with, all the more touching because his usual response is to just push her until she falls, cries, and then vomits. Finally, video of the weekend's other activity - hockey and baseball. Janine got Danny a golf set, which he immediately appropriated for hockey. Some of you field hockey aficionados will surely appreciate the stick work displayed by both sides. He's also continued the momentum of last weekend's training with Matt and continued to improve his hitting skills.

Spring, Hawk Style

Red Tailed Hawk, that is. A pair of hawks built a nest in our big tree two years ago, right when Leigh and Elizabeth were born. We could hear the squawking every morning. They came back this year, to their monster nest high up.

Circling.
Coming in for a landing.
Eating something in our backyard in 2008.
No birds, I just liked the early morning light on the nest. Imagine the view with your morning vole/mole/chipmunk!
