Danny took his new hiking poles to Maltby Lakes.
This is his hidden leg trick.Perfect sitting rock in the afternoon sun.It was cold there; DHV refused mittens, hat, and jacket. Leigh has discovered our little window, and likes to watch the outside world through it.

A post mostly about Danny

DHawk usually likes to keep things exciting around here, but here's a picture of him spacing out. DKV asked SHV, "what the heck is wrong with our son in this picture?"
"Oh, that's when he hadn't napped for four days."
He snapped right out of it when we opened up the Frosty the Snowman singing book. He can tap into his endless reservoirs of energy whenever he wants. DHV adding humorous commentary on DKV's inability to open a jar of sauce.
Helping MomHV make the Christmas cookies.
This is especially fun when you try to turn the duck into a car shape with your bare hands. Then you get yelled at. After whining, you are rewarded with a cookie. Rinse, repeat.
Sometimes we try to run the well of energy dry by bring DHV to places like the "beeg water."

He bops sticks into the water. He looks for other parts of the beeg water to instickerate.

Puddles of mud also need to be carefully filled with rocks.

One Week Update

One week down and everything seems to be coming together well.
Here's DHV scoping out the situation.
A kiss on the forehead.
DKV, DHV, LRV, and Pete the Panda relaxing. DHV can make quite the mess.Obligatory bath photo. Hands off the vent circuit, young lady!
Family dinner, courtesy of the bumbo.DHV holding baby Leigh.Danny has been talking about the big water every day, so we popped over to check things out.
"Beeg wah-wah!"Running over to some "beeg" rocks.
Standing on top of the beeg rocks.
Bopping sticks into the beeg water.
Right after this, DHawk managed to fall, face-first, into the beeg water. DKV hauled him out by the seat of his pants.

Der Deutsch Frau

Janine's mom and her mom's friend Rosalinda paid a visit just before Halloween.
DHV, ever the gentleman, showed Getty (Gertrude) his favorite spots.

Beeg! Wah-wah!

Schnell! Up and down the hill.

DHV scored two backpacks from Germany. His parents got a ton of candy. Here he models his going-to-school look.

Luring Rosalinda in for a kiss.

Brotherly Love

Whenever we mention Leigh these days DHV's immediate response is "abba?" hospital?
Followed shortly by "yah-low!" yellow!

6 month hospital stay? $500 deductible.
1 month Yale Parking? $150
Giant box of twizzlers for the nurses? $5
Raiding the respiratory/oncology playroom for some yellow trucks to play with? Priceless.

DHV inspecting the sleeping arrangements with SHV.

DHV giving LRV a bottle! Very cool. DHV sat still for about 5 minutes, which is a long time for him. LRV is now taking full bottles all by herself about 1/2 the time, and she's pushing 5lbs 14oz.

The Oregon Trail, Part II

After enjoying the park we took the Oregonians on a short walk, to show that New Haven isn't all Ivory Tower and crack dealers on street corners.

The deep woods of southern Connecticut, guarded by thickets of poison ivy.

Relaxing at New Haven´s slice of Minnesota, aka Maltby Lakes.
"Pete, take a picture of these here tough cats!"

Running along the dam.
High speeds resulted in a fall and some facial trauma.
That did not slow the Hawk down.

Hair!

More hair!

DHV hoofing it after Ida usurped his ride.

Ferries, Castles, and Minnesota Lakes

Last weekend we packed up the family and headed to Haddam, CT (logically located in the center of Middletown, Middle Haddam, East Haddam, Haddam Neck, Little Haddam, Hadlyme, and Lyme) where we boarded the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry for a trip to Gillette Castle.
An actor made famous by his stage role as Sherlock Holmes built this eccentric stone mansion; he apparently had several Japanese "man-servants". It all seemed like a forerunner of Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch.
This wacko built his own railroad on the grounds, complete with an utterly unnecessary underground tunnel. Nothing like an autumn picnic!
Here's a shot of HusbandKV's favorite running location, just across the road from the house: Maltby Lakes. It looks like Minnesota but is just minutes from the door. After a hard day exploring Connecticut, DHV likes to set the dishwasher on "Pots and Pans" and climb in for a relaxing sauna treatment.
